The Dynamos defended their state title capturing their second consecutive U.S Open Cup Virginia State Championship in a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory.   By defeating WISL league rival La "U",  the Dynamos will advance to the regional round of the U.S Open Cup in the spring of 2003.  This sets a potential  rematch against regional winners V.E. soccer club of Pennsylvania, who defeated the Dynamos last spring 3-2 in Philadelphia.

Finding themselves down 2-0 late in the second half despite dominating the match with scoring opportunities and run of the play, second half substitute Faiz Behogman struck the net pulling the Dynamos within one.  A beautiful free kick by Nicolas McMorris found net tying the match as the full time whistle blew.   The momentum had clearly shifted, and early in sudden death overtime the Dynamos clinched their comeback as Mounir finished a smartly taken free kick from John McManus deep in the opponents end.  With three goals in little less than fifteen minutes, the Virginia State Championship was again awarded to the Dynamos F.C.

The WISL Terrill Cup began this weekend with the leagues top teams competing for the league championship.  The top four teams in the premier and first divisions set the brackets with the top two teams in each of the four lower divisions.  The Dynamos having finished first in the Premier division, going unbeaten in league play, routed their first round foes, Irelands Four Provinces 7-0.  The match had the makings of an true derby with cooling temperatures, steady rain, and a pub foe looking to knock out the leagues dominate team.  Following the season's form, the Dynamos quickly showed its dominance by scoring early and often.  They move to round two next sunday at noon at Brettton Woods Country Club.

With wins over FC Bosnia (CVSA) and Sporting Gazuza (WISL) the Dynamos defend their Virginia State Title and clinch the WISL league championship.  On Saturday the DFC beat the visiting FC Bosnia from the CVSA, 2-0, which sends them to the Virginia State Cup this coming weekend, in Richmond, Virginia.  The State Cup crowns the best amateur team in the state, the defense of their title coming after a 3-0 victory over LCI in the US Open Cup earlier this year.

On Sunday, the Dynamos routed league foe Sporting Gazuza 7-1.  This victory secured another 3 points, maximizing a full 24 points out of 24 possible in eight games.  With no other team in reach, the DFC have clinched the WISL league championship.

The Dynamos enter a tough stretch with three matches in four days.  The first on saturday the 8th, will have the DFC hosting FC Bosnia of the CVSA (Richmond, VA) in the quarterfinal round of the Virginia State Cup.  The winner advances the following weekend in Richmond, with the eventual winner crowned on sunday.  The DFC won the state championship in April, as they defeated LCI in the US Open Cup.  The 2002 Virginia State cup will provide the venue for its first defense and prove the Dynamos dominance at the state level.
The next day the DFC will face either a motivated or dejected Sporting Gazuza team that is staring relegation in the face.  Without points for Gazuza, relegation is all but assured.  The Dynamos will be motivated, however, as they seek the 8th season victory in as many tries, setting up the premier league showdown for league title as they face Bier FC in their final league match on tuesday the 11th.  The coals are getting hotter, as things begin to shape up for what will be no doubt be an exciting finish for League play.

Returning to League play this weekend, the DFC gained valuable points in the Premiership, as it remains the only undefeated team with 3 shutouts in 4 victories so far this season.  The DFC stand in second place with maximum points of 12 in 4 games, with two games in hand to the rest of the league.  A promising start towards the league championship as the season approaches a mid point.  Following an 0 for 4 start in the Fall 2001 session, the Dynamos tallied 10 victories, 1 loss, and 1 tie its past 12 matches.  The Dynamos look to continue its dominance this coming weekend with an important match versus UAE, a victory here would go a long way in clinching a playoff spot in the League championship this summer.

On both Thursday and Friday of this past week Uraguay held its training sessions at Reeves field at the American University.  With Uraguays goalminders having yet to arrive, Dynamos striker, Matt Pilkington, strapped on the boots and the gloves and defended the goal for the Uruguan side.  The AU's keeper provided stiff competition for him in the other net, however, on this day Pilks seemed up to the task.  Great job Pilks.  Showing us all his athletic ability, Pilks got honors after the practice  in a photograph session with Recoba, who plays for Inter Milan in the Serie A.

Dynamos Striker Renaud Lievin, 22, from Charleroi, Belgium trained with D.C. United today.  DC's scoring woes continue as they seek to find someone to put the ball in the net.  Renaud's tryout went well, as United asked him to continue training for the next few weeks.  The basic team was available on tuesday with the exception of Eddie Pope who is at the U.S. World Cup camp, Etcheverry who is resting a groin, and Ben Olsen who is due back from ankle surgery soon.
